The Vanmahotsav is a week-long festival celebrated In India. A festival of life, it is usually celebrated between 1st July and 7th July. It was started by Dr. K.M. Munshi in 1950.

In Mount Saint Ann High School, the Vanmahotsav was celebrated on the 3rd of July 2019 with great enthusiasm.

Mrs. Sujata Girish Kher, an ex-Corporator and renowned social worker in Talegaon, was invited as the Chief Guest for the program titled ‘Festivals of the Forest’. The program began in the Morning Assembly, where Mrs. Swati Panchwagh introduced the chief guest to everyone and our principal welcomed her and thanked her for spending her valuable time with the students and staff.

Then, the students of Std. 8th highlighted the importance of forests by performing a small skit. Through their skit they gave the message that ‘for every tree fallen, ten tree saplings should be planted to make up for its loss’.

Afterwards, the students of Std. 7th presented a Marathi Abhang by Sant Tukaram Maharaj – ‘Vrukshavalli amha soyari vanchare’, which describes the importance of trees.

At the end of the program Mrs. Kher explained that the need for planting and tending trees is one of the best ways to prevent global warming and reduce pollution, as well as the harm caused by deforestation.

Our esteemed Chief Guest Mrs. Sujata Kher, Honorable principal Sr. Irine, Mrs. Anita Bhise,

Mrs. Vidya Patil, Jojo Sir, Mrs. Swati Panchwagh, Bhupal uncle and the students of Std. 12th assisted in the plantation, in the school campus.

This entire endeavor was possible largely due to the great support of our respected Principal,

Sr. Irine. All in all, it was a memorable day, where the students experienced the joy of working with and for trees.

Aim:The constant falling of trees in India has been a problem for a long time and the Vanmahotsav is important in creating awareness among the students about these issues. It creates awareness in the mind of the people for the conservation of forests and planting of new trees to save Mother Earth.
